We design and manufacture silicone products for use in the food industry
Silicone and plastics are widely used in the food sector for manufacturing kitchen molds, bowls, spoons, and various accessories.
The Italian Legislative Decree 29/2017 and its subsequent updates establish specific regulations for food contact materials and objects (MOCA), requiring operators in the sector to register their facilities with health authorities.
Silter is listed in the MOCA registry and is certified ISO 9001 and ISO 45001, with the UNI EN 15593 certification under completion.
In recent years, the use of silicone baking molds has steadily increased. This material allows for even and quick cooking of food, which solidifies easily during freezing or in a blast chiller, facilitating removal without damaging the aesthetic appearance.
The best food-grade silicone is platinum-cured. Silter exclusively uses this type of silicone, known as LSR (Liquid Silicone Rubber). Unlike paste silicones, LSR silicone is already in liquid form. The food-grade silicones used by Silter are BfR and FDA certified.
To ensure safety in food contact, platinum-cured silicone products undergo a post-curing process, meaning they are “baked” in an oven at a set temperature and time. Silter performs post-curing in-house, following strict standards.
Platinum-cured silicone accessories can be used in a wide temperature range, from -60°C to 230°C. They are easy to use and clean, non-stick, and versatile, making them safe for use in microwaves, ovens, dishwashers, refrigerators, and freezers.
LSR silicone is waterproof and resistant to bacteria, ensuring easy maintenance and a high level of hygiene. Additionally, platinum-cured silicone is free of bisphenol.
Silter manufactures all its components in its plant in Mellaredo di Pianiga (VE), Italy.
Food-grade silicone is a safe material when produced correctly. Here are some precautions to reduce risks:
- Always check the product’s origin.
- Choose platinum-cured silicone molds and utensils.
- When purchasing food-grade silicone, verify its quality. If you notice cracks or color changes when bending the material, avoid buying it.
- High-quality food-grade platinum-cured silicone has no odor. If you detect an unpleasant smell, it is better not to purchase it.
- When in doubt, always ask the manufacturer for migration test information.
- Wash silicone items thoroughly before use.
- Avoid contact with aggressive substances (such as solvents) and sharp objects. In case of tears, replace the product immediately.
